Growing Together Through Every Milestone with Chunky Monkey

One of the greatest gifts of being a photographer is not just capturing a single moment — it’s building a relationship that grows right alongside a family. At Chunky Monkey Photography, photography has never been just about pictures. It is about connection, trust, memories, and becoming part of the story of a family’s life.

It often begins with one moment. Maybe it is maternity pictures while parents are anxiously waiting to meet their baby. Maybe it is a sleepy newborn session in the studio with tiny fingers wrapped around mom’s hand. Sometimes it starts with a milestone session, a senior session, or even a family session in a field at sunset.

Then something amazing happens.

The connection grows.

Over the years, I get to watch families change and grow in the most beautiful ways. Tiny newborns that once fit perfectly in my hands suddenly become toddlers running through the studio laughing. Those toddlers become big siblings proudly holding a new baby brother or sister. Families that once had three members become four… then five… and sometimes even more. Before I know it, I am photographing kindergarten graduations, sports photos, senior sessions, and eventually weddings.

It is truly one of the most emotional and rewarding parts of being a photographer.

There is something incredibly special about clients who become “my families.” We learn each other over time. I learn which child is shy at first and which one will instantly make me laugh. Parents learn to trust me completely with their memories, their babies, and their stories. Sessions become easier because there is comfort there — a genuine relationship built through years of shared moments.

As photographers, we witness seasons of life that many people never get to see. We see the excitement of first-time parents. We see grandparents loving on new generations. We see families walk through growth, change, and sometimes even hardship. Yet through every season, there is one constant: the photographs become part of their legacy.

The truth is, these images become more valuable with time.

Years from now, your children will not care if your house was perfectly clean or if life felt chaotic in that season. They will look back at these photographs and remember how loved they were. They will see the way their parents looked at them. They will remember the connection, the laughter, the hugs, and the love that surrounded them.

And honestly, photographers feel that too.

Every time one of my CMP families comes back, it feels a little like seeing old friends again. Watching your children grow is a privilege I never take lightly. Being trusted to document your milestones year after year means more than I could ever put into words.

We all grow and change through the years. Babies grow up. Families evolve. Life moves fast. But somehow, through all of those changing seasons, the connection remains. That bond between photographer and family becomes something incredibly meaningful and lasting.

That is what makes this job so much more than taking pictures.

It is about preserving memories.
It is about connection.
It is about growing together.

And for that, I will forever be grateful.
